Imperial Die & Mfg. Co. specializes in tooling for high-volume manufacturing. Customers will come to us with a design or a prototype of a part that they want to produce as a stamping, and we will design and build the required stamping dies and provide them either the die to use in their own stamping facility, or run the stampings here and provide them with the finished parts. All of our dies have interchangeable and replaceable components and will produce from hundreds of thousands to millions of parts over their useful life. Although toolings will cost from several thousands of dollars up to in excess of $100,000, their ability to produce high volumes of parts keeps the finished cost of the products relatively low in cost, often only pennies per piece. Approximately half of our business has evolved into actually running the stampings ourselves. We do stamping work for bed frames manufactured by Manaway Manufacturing and eight different styles of aluminum covers for engine control computers for Delphi Automotive for use in many General Motors products. We also supply secondary operations, heat treating, and finishing operations to provide the parts with black oxide coatings, zinc or chrome electroplating, painting, and many other finishing processes.
