Integrated Golf Education, Training, and Coaching

Serious Golf Training for Golfers Looking to Play Their Very Best

David G. Geier has been interested in golf since his early childhood. His father and brother had been avid golfers from the time they worked as caddies at a local country club, and whatever the season, the family played a variety of sports, from baseball to tennis, football, basketball, hockey, ice skating, and, of course, golf. David's favorite was golf, and he found himself developing a deep, lifelong affinity for the sport. David started in the golf business in 1991, getting his start with Dave Moskal at his golf shop in Strongsville. While he was there, he managed the store part-time and gave golf lessons. At the beginning of 1992, he founded Golf: Inside & Out.

In 1994-95, David was the teaching professional at the Medina Country Club in Medina, Ohio. Then in December 2002, he opened his Golf: Inside & Out indoor training center located in North Royalton at 9761 York-Alpha Drive. His goal is to help golfers of all skill levels to take their game to the next level. While striving to improve his game, he realized that the only option for recreational golfers wanting to improve their game was to go to a driving range, purchase a bucket of balls, and continue swinging away under the assumption that the more balls you hit, the better your game would become. We met with David recently, and listened as he provided this overview of his cutting edge approach to golf education, training, and coaching, including the options available at Golf: Inside & Out;

Golf: Inside & Out is a unique indoor golf training center providing integrated golf education, training, and coaching. In a classroom setting, we provide the knowledge base that all aspiring golfers need to understand, including golf terminology and jargon. After learning and systematizing the theory of golf, we then go to our indoor training facility where these concepts can be put into practice through drills that enhance the golfer's skills. This progressive process enables golfers to quickly become more effective and efficient when they return to the links.

Before I founded Golf: Inside & Out, the recreational golfer wanting to improve their skills and take their game to the next level only had one option. They could take lessons from an instructor at a driving range or country club, but when the lessons were over, they were left to their own devices and became "golf orphans". Without enough knowledge to evaluate why they're topping the ball, or the reasons their ball goes to the right or left, they were limited in the amount of progress they could achieve. We've created an educational and training program designed to not only educate and help golfers build their skills, but also to provide them with a support mechanism whereby they can continue to receive the assistance they need to greatly improve their game.

There's more to the game of golf than just learning how to swing the golf club. While proper technique is extremely important, swing mechanics alone is a limited educational model. Our educational curriculum combines the technical, physical, mental, and emotional skills that are needed by not only professional golfers, but for the beginning golfer, as well. The mind plays a very important role in being able to perform well on the golf course. Mental training builds a golfers' self-esteem and self-confidence, enabling them to perform well in front of friends, associates, and colleagues. We have a facility where a golfer can learn their skills at their own pace feeling safe within that learning environment.

It can take anywhere from three months to two years to develop a particular golf skill. As long as you continue to correctly work at skill building, there's no telling how far you can go. We've had students who had been playing in the 100s before taking four to six months of training from us, and now they're playing in the low 90s and high 80s. But, they know that if they want to continue to improve, they have to continue to train. We provide game evaluations and assessments to measure the golfer's strengths and weaknesses, from which we can tell them where they are now, where they need to be, and how to know when they're doing it correctly. This education, training, and coaching is where we really differentiate ourselves from the typical range instructor or golf club pro.

Most of our training is provided on a one-on-one basis, although we also offer training through a "buddy program". For example, we work with husbands and wives who view golf as an activity they can do together. When they commit to our ten hour training program, they also have the ability to come to the training center between sessions for self training. Here the students do their training drills which will mature their skills into correct habits. Unlike traditional driving ranges where it's up to the golfer to practice on their own, we prefer our students come to our indoor center where they can focus strictly on skill building in an environment of support and encouragement.

David recently became the co-author of a new book entitled SCORE! Power Up Your Game, Business, Life by Harnessing the Power of Emotional Intelligence. David and his partner/co-author John Bothwell, Phd. will be conducting corporate training programs that teach the lessons and skills of EQ using golf as the learning vehicle. The book will be in the bookstores before the end of 2006.
